Enriching Education with Social Media

There's no doubt about it, social media is here to stay. Facebook, MySpace, Twitter, LinkedIn and the like are dominating the hours spent online and look to only be increasing in usage. Mashable has a great article about making the case for social media in schools that's definitely worth checking out. Using these tools can bring students into a more engaging relationship with teachers, other students and with their coursework. Additionally, teachers can use these channels to create more engaging and open lines of communication with parents, especially with children who are struggling and need extra support.

The best thing about most of these social media tools is that they're FREE! In today's economy, where many schools are forced into budget cuts, teachers may have to step outside of their normal comfort zone to reach students in a new way. We will continue to update you on the use of technology and social media in schools here at The RtI Blog.
